Granite is a very durable surface nevertheless you want to care for your investment. Here are some points to consider for maintaining the beauty of your granite counter tops:

  • Granite countertops should be sealed around the time of the installation and periodically (1-2 times per year)

  • For everyday cleaning  use simple dishwashing soap then rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry the countertop completely with a clean dry cloth

  • Don’t use vinegar or anything that may contain ammonia (e.g. Windex), bleach (e.g. Clorox), lemon, or specialty bathroom tile or grout cleaners that may contain acids

  • Other items that could be detrimental to any stone’s surfaces are citric acids, oils, wine and ink, in the granite the effect is not permanent but could be in other types of stone like marble or travertine.

  • Clean up spills as quickly as possible with a blotting technique instead of wiping.

  • There is specialty daily granite cleaning solutions available in the market if you desire something special for your counter tops

  • Scratching: granite countertops are extremely hard surfaces however, the top should not be used as a cutting surface since it will dull your knives we recommend the use of cutting boards instead.

  • Heat: granite is very heat resistant and unlikely to burn or scratch. However, thermal shock or cracks may occurr it so we recommend the use of trivets or hot pads.
